“Accidentally” find a space ship on Mars—in my thoughts this seemed to bring to mind the indestructible chrome ship as seen in Flight of the Navigator!—then load ‘er up into the hull of your spaceship (The Blue Lucy), and now try to keep your find out of the grabby hands of big corporations, the government, and everyone else. And when I say everyone, I mean like a million people! Because this book must’ve had hundreds of characters. And each human had at least some back-story, and the aliens too, but, and yes, then there’s—
But I just can’t, won’t spoil it for you! Yet the battle *is* on. The Blue Lucy and her extraordinarily gifted crew—each chosen for an intriguing reason (come to find), one that could make an expert chess player go insane—is in it for the long haul. And this is just the beginning, and all you’ll receive as far as clues because I don’t want to give away what ultimately takes place in this mind-blowing must-read epic!
All that juicy stuff said, this is my first “PROS and “CONS” book review. As stated on my Facebook page recently, I wanted to try something different, rather than just enthusiastically pointing out what I liked and then slapping up some stars. So I’ll list a few things I loved, and a few I didn’t in the short section as follows…
The PROS…
This is a long book. Lots of things happen. Not much I can say about the second half of the book without spoiling it, but think full spectrum: action, fascination, mesmerization! And then the finale leaves you with that feel-good feeling, the kind that piques your emotions, galvanizes your gooseflesh, makes the whole experience of reading a great story, extremely satisfying. A well-tied-together story no doubt The Blue Lacy is, and in this case, that’s an understatement!
This story has fantastic, original, and interesting character depth—for literally dozens of characters! And the author has done a wonderful job of lassoing in all of the near countless details. They eventually come together so beautifully, that this must be said: this plot must’ve required a genius mind! Or a whole decade of time, plus flowcharts and pie-charts and a million arrows on charts! Imagine a ball of tumbleweed with a million branches; imagine it getting weaved into a basket that could be pressurized to contain propane! Yes, everything in this packed-tight epic eventually comes together as though its pages were a Gordian Knot being brought forth into existence. There was just so much to enjoy, like these futuristic tidbits for example. They were just-rightly, lightly sprinkled in:
[*Puterese: A complex verbal computer language used by computer techs.] …one of my favs!
But it was just the grand creative uniqueness of THIS story. The far-reaching aspects of a future—where paperwork still exists, unfortunately—and way beyond. To the land of the gods, and beyond even that. And to other dimensions by way of some pretty cool speculations that really get you thinking. So much so, perhaps—YES! I have no problem believing this future could and will come to pass. Because that’s the true power of great fiction, it does that to a brain!
The CONS… (Boooooo! SHUT UP, TRAVIS!)
Now I hate to be picky, especially about grammar. Yet I did find the author’s use of commas to be distracting, as in this sentence, “And, even though, G.T. and he had not met the man before, they both recognized him,” and this one, “The only negatives, I could find in his background, are references, to him being extremely shy and a bit peculiar.”
Continually I was pulled out of the story because of the overly strict and sometimes incorrect usage of the comma. From the get-go I found this to be excessive to the point I couldn’t help but notice. And unfortunately, I found this to be a burden to the flow of the story and my attention span as a reader. However, the proofreading in this novel was okay. I only found a handful of errors, which isn’t bad considering this is a large book.
Another “CON,” and I actually have to try pretty hard to find *anything* wrong with this story, is that it took me a while to get into it. Really though, this isn’t a big deal. Many stories take a while to get to the good stuff. They are a build up, they lay the foundation and then watch out! As was the case with this powerful story!
Lastly, I got sidetracked a few times by backstories and other sometimes insignificant details. Many could have been left out. Doing so would’ve made the read more pithy. But again, no real biggie here. For anyone who likes a long story, this just adds to the character depth.
My final rating…
Only one small thing has a detrimental affect on my final rating of Blue Lucy Revelation: Angels of Another Kind, by Tiffee Jasso. So I give this book five stars and my highest recommendation, minus only a half star because of the overuse of commas. But please don’t let that one tiny “CON” stop you from enjoying this epic. It’s a massive, full-scale adventure! A highly recommended book! I’ll be purchasing a paperback copy soon, and diving into it again. Maybe again and again! Blue Lucy Revaluation gets 4.5 outstanding stars! Now blast off—up and away!
